Hip Circle Empowerment Center expands to bring bellydance and women’s empowerment to Howard Street
Evanston, IL 8/29/18 – Hip Circle Empowerment Center is excited to open their new, larger location at 727 Howard Street on September 4, 2018. Now in its eighth year, Hip Circle Empowerment Center continues to offer dance, fitness, and community to empower ALL who identify as women. Women are encouraged to visit hipcircle.org and to register for the first Community Movement Circle on Sunday, September 9th. This event is “pay what you can”. Everyone is encouraged to attend the ribbon cutting on Thursday, October 18th.
Hip Circle was founded in 2010 to create a space where women of all shapes, sizes, and orientations could learn to move their bodies in a safe, encouraging environment. Hip Circle weaves empowerment into every class, workshop, and event. Hundreds of women have enjoyed intentionally small, welcoming yet intimate classes. A 501(c)3 nonprofit, all of these events are offered, enthusiastically, on a sliding scale.
In one student’s words, “I found Hip Circle when I was in the middle of a major life transition. During that time, it became an anchor in what was, for me, a confusing and devastating time. Through Hip Circle, I connected with an art form (bellydance) that has helped me discover my voice and my worth.”
Hip Circle offers approximately 20 events weekly, including a Co-working Circle, Bellydance BaseFusion™, Gentle Yoga, Kettlebell, and Pilates — many of which are led by Founder and Executive Director Malik Turley. The founding president of the Main-Dempster Mile (a special service area in Evanston), Turley looks forward to bringing her unique offerings to a new neighborhood in Evanston. Hip Circle Empowerment Center’s new location is at 727 Howard Street, Evanston, IL 60202 and will open on September 4, 2018. The official ribbon cutting is scheduled for Thursday, 10/18 at 6 pm. The site is easily accessible by bus and train, and ample bike parking is available. For more information or to register for classes and events, please visit hipcircle.org or call 847-859-9427.
