This is an ever-evolving list based on the questions we get at the center.  Have a question that isn’t answered here?  Let us know and it will likely appear on the list soon!

Can I watch a class/workshop?

For the comfort of all of our clients, we don’t permit observers in our classes or workshops.  We encourage curious students to signup for class and offer all programming with the philosophy you are mistress of your own mat and are best able to determine what your body needs on any given day. We believe participating will give you a much better sense of our offerings than simply watching.

Can I come to any class as a beginner?

You are welcome in almost all the classes on the schedule at any experience level.  We do have a few bellydance classes & workshops that are designed for experienced dancers – take a look at our Bellydance – Where do I start page for details.  Our instructors are adept at offering modifications and adjustments to help you get the most out of our classes.  Do be sure to let your instructor know that you’re just getting started so she can help you from the start.

I’m a person with disabilities – can I take a class?

Yes! We welcome the challenge to modify our classes to fit the needs of ALL women & girls. Our instructors are trained professionals that can help make adjustments for participants, and strive to make the class a meaningful, healthy experience for all students.

I’m a trans woman – can I take a class?

Yes! Hip Circle welcomes feminine or feminine of center identities (including trans, cis, and non-binary folks) to all of our classes and workshops. As our mission statement says, Hip Circle aims to empower ALL women, regardless of gender assignment, sexuality, religion, ability, skin color, country of origin, age, economic position, or background. We strive to apply our core values to cultivate a safe space for ALL women and girls.

Is Hip Circle LGBTQ+ friendly?

Yes! As our mission statement says, Hip Circle aims to empower ALL women, regardless of gender assignment, sexuality, etc. We apply our core values to cultivate a safe space for members of the LGBTQ+ community.

What should I wear and have available to participate in class?

General workout wear is fine for all of our classes. Our teachers can help you find alternative and readily available options if the formal equipment for the suggested class is not on hand. Below are some class-specific notes:

  • Dance & Mat classes – Form-fitting clothing will enable your teacher help you and these classes are done barefoot. However, we encourage you to attend as you are most comfortable.
  • Strength/Cardio classes – Supportive gym shoes are recommended.

Can my friend use a “punch” on my class card?

Nope, but she is welcome to purchase a drop-in pass if she is only coming once, or she can get her own class card and save alongside you.

Can I bring my baby/child with me to the class/workshop?

For our adult fitness classes, daughters 7-11 may attend (for the regular class fee) with their mother. Girls 12+ are welcome in our adult classes on their own. Babies are welcome to be worn at any of our bellydance classes. Children are welcome in our family workshops if they are within the published age range for the content. Obviously we are all navigating the blurred lines of attending and participating in streaming content while in shared household spaces. Use your best judgement so you can be present and benefit from the programming.

What do you do with my information?

We collect your contact information at registration and to be able to notify you of any changes in your class/workshop registrations.  We have the utmost respect for our customers’ privacy and will not release any information gathered about our customers, nor will we inundate you with emails, calls, or texts.  You can expect to hear from us once a week via general email if you sign up for our email newsletters in addition to registration reminders.

How does the pricing work?

Hip Circle is proud to offer all classes and workshops on a Pay What You Can (PWYC) basis, as part of our commitment to removing barriers for women and girls. Each class, workshop, and service has a listed “standard price.” Please pay as much as you can within the range provided. Pay it forward by choosing a higher amount when you’re able, rely on the support of others by choosing a lower amount when needed, and pay the standard rate when appropriate. We honor, welcome, and trust ALL women and look forward to seeing you in the circle.
